It was a muscle spasm. Or, withdrawal symptoms…
Football is coming, I feel it, don’t you?
It’s only July and there’s lots else to do
But as summer lingers, I warm up my fingers
Cuz I write these for football, too
It’s summer for students across the whole nation
We’re long past The 4th, past high school graduation
But as the season approaches, those players and coaches
Are all back from summer vacation
It’s not even August, yes I do realize
that most are still focused on grilling supplies.
And in the off-season, it may stand to reason
that withdrawals might just be on the rise!
It seems we’ve lost touch with other Spartans of late
During summer there’s just so much stuff on our plate
But the time’s drawing near, we’ll be together to cheer
on our Spartans of Michigan State
Now a question for students and alumni
For teachers and profs and all Spartans on high:
Amongst all the fans wearing green in the stands
Do you think we will see Waffle Guy?
And for those of us who live far from our team
Playing some euchre just to blow off some steam
We can’t wait for fall and the start of football
And chasing that championship dream
And so as we ramble, this summer through
On the tips of our tongues (I know as well as you)
Are “Go GREEN! Go WHITE!” and “FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!”
As we praise our alma mater, MSU.
