AKA My Sister’s Gauntlet
So, following that bizarre turn I took with the limerick about the Tennessee Volunteers playing Kentucky (no disrespect to Kentucky, one of the greatest college basketball programs in decades), my sister dared me…nay; challenged me…to write another.
And it came out something like this:
So the gauntlet’s been laid by my sister
she’s having me played (to think I missed her!)
It’s the Spartans and the Buckeyes, and I now realize
That my fingers are beginning to blister!
“Sparty and Ohio State?!” I wail
As I look back at Jennifer’s latest email
And she insists, as she would, hoping this’ll be good
But undoubtedly it’s gonna fail.
Allow me a non sequitur
as I share with you something ’bout her
it’s about margaritas, and if you’d like, you could meet us
for a few, ’til our words start to slur!
Oh, okay; that’s enough secret-sharing
and revealing (only some of) her daring
I could go on, I suppose, lord only knows
But that’s enough dirty-laundry airing.
So we’re back to tomorrow’s game
Between State and that unspeakable name
It’s conference rivalry, and it could get bloody
Could be tough but we’ll win all the same.
So, repeat after me, if you might
as we anticipate tomorrow’s fight
We’re ranked further up, and they’re not (shut up)
Let’s all chant “Go Green! Go White!”
